Book Discussion and Museum Tour (grades 4 – 6 w/ their parent or an adult)

Surviving the Applewhites Book Cover
Print Friendly, PDF & Email

We’ve partnered with The Long Island Museum in Stony Brook for a unique program (grades 4 – 6 and their families) which includes a book discussion and an opportunity to tour parts of the museum.  This collaborative book club uses the museum to enhance book discussions – it’s a chance to share a one-of-a-kind reading experience, and we’re thrilled to offer it to Three Village.

Sunday, April 29, (3:00 – 4:30 p.m.)

Surviving the Applewhites by Stephanie S. Tolan in conjunction with the exhibit Perfect Harmony: The Musical Life and Art of William Sydney Mount (1807 – 1868).

Jake Semple is notorious.  Rumor has it he burned down his old school and got kicked out of every school in his home state.  Only one place will take him now, a home school run by the Applewhites, a chaotic, eccentric and passionate family with vast artistic talents.  The only one who doesn’t fit the Applewhite mold is the youngest daughter, E.D., a smart, sensible girl who immediately clashes with the unruly Jake.  The only thing they have in common is their determination to survive the family’s eccentricities (A Newbury Honor Book). In-person registration begins at the library on 3/24.  Books will be supplied at the time of registration at Emma Clark.

For more information regarding this book discussion, please email the Children’s Department at kids@emmaclark.org or call 631.941.4080 ext. 123.

Please note, if you are visiting the museum any other time, we offer free passes:  www.emmaclark.org/services/museum-passes/
