Fall and Halloween-Themed Programs

Junior High & High Schoolers, if you dare…check out all of the awesome Fall and Halloween-themed programs we have going on in September and October:

Stony Brook Village Scarecrow Builders
Monday and Tuesday, September 11 & 12, 6:00 – 7:00 p.m. and Saturday, September 16, 3:00 – 4:00 p.m.
Dedicated and artistically inclined Teen Volunteers are needed to create the Library’s Scarecrow for the Stony Brook Village Scarecrow Competition!  Teens will work together with Librarian Emily and Library Page Kiera to build a scarecrow, which will be displayed at the Stony Brook Village for the month of October.  Visitors to Stony Brook Village have the opportunity to vote for their favorite scarecrow; hopefully it’s ours!  Teens in this program will also be called upon to check on the scarecrow 3 times during an assigned week.  Please Note: Teens who register for this program must be available for all 3 building sessions, and one week in October to “adopt” the scarecrow care routine.  Teens will earn Community Service credit. Halloween Wreaths for Senior Citizens
Friday, September 29, 7:00 – 8:30 p.m.
Create Halloween-themed wreaths, to be donated to a local senior center. Taught by Manisha Singhal. Teens will earn Community Service credit. Register here starting 8/15

Book Club: Was the Book Better? Something Wicked This Way Comes
Sunday, October 15,  1:30 – 4:30 p.m.  
You’ve heard it said many times before, “The book was better than the movie!”  But was it really?  Check out and read Something Wicked This Way Comes by Ray Bradbury, then come to our Book Club to watch the movie version!  Discuss your opinion, engage in themed activities, meet new friends, and eat snacks!  See for yourself if the book is truly better than the movie.  Program led by Library Page Kiera.  Something Wicked This Way Comes (1983) is rated PG. Bring Your Own Adult: Haunted House Challenge
Friday, October 20, 5:00 – 6:00 p.m.
Bring your Adult with you to the library for a baking challenge! It’s Haunted House vs. Haunted House in this tasty competition. Brainstorm and decorate your very own one of a kind Haunted House; you may win the night! Taught by Michelle Vamos. Open to 6th-12th graders and their adults!  Register here starting 8/15. Each registration covers 1 youth and 1 adult.


Spooky Teen Trivia
Saturday, October 28, 10:30 – 11:30 a.m.
Are you scary good at trivia? Test your knowledge of spooky pop culture!  Work as a team with your tablemates to win fabulous prizes!  Snacks will be provided. Register here starting 8/15.


Creepy (But Cute) Candy Characters
Saturday, October 28, 12:00 – 1:00 p.m.
Decorate Lollipops as spooky characters, to be handed out by the Library the week of Halloween!  Led by Teen Services Page Kiera. Teens will earn Community Service credit. Register here starting 8/15.


DIY Zombie Special Effect Makeup
Saturday, October 28, 2:30 – 4:30 p.m.
Create personalized Zombie makeup just in time for Halloween!  Use professional-grade supplies to create your gruesome look, which can be applied and removed over and over.  Taught by Chris Vivas. Register here starting 8/15.
