Emma Clark Library users have access to 3 different services for at-home downloadable e-media:

1. NetLibrary

First Time Users of the NetLibrary Service

You'll need your library card number (printed on the back of your Emma Clark library card).

Returning Users of the NetLibrary Service

OR

if you've installed the optional NetLibrary Media Center software (for Windows XP and Vista), you can simply start up the Media Center program on your computer without visiting the NetLibrary website.

You'll need your library card number (printed on the back of your Emma Clark library card).

Hardware Requirements
All NetLibrary eAudiobooks can be downloaded or played on any desktop computer, laptop computer or portable device supporting Windows Media Audio (WMA) files. Certain titles (available in MP3 format) can also be played on Apple devices such as the iPod.

Software Requirements
An optional, NetLibrary Media Center software is available for Windows XP and Windows Vista. You'll see a button to download this software after you've first created your account and logged in.

Audio Quality
NetLibrary offers two audio qualities: CD quality and radio quality.

  1. CD quality offers high-fidelity playback for members with high-speed Internet access.
  2. Radio quality provides faster download speed and is ideal for members with dial-up connections who wish to listen to the book on their computer. Most portable listening devices do not support the playback of files lower than 32 kbps, so you must download the CD quality file if you are going to transfer and listen to the audiobook on a portable listening device.

iPod Compatability
NetLibrary does offer some titles available in MP3 format. MP3 Audiobooks can be transferred to a wide range of devices, including the iPod®, iPhone™, iPod Touch and Microsoft Zune. Please note that not all titles are available in MP3 format.

2.

This is a service provided through the Suffolk Cooperative Library System. Download electronic versions of audiobooks, music, video and eBooks to play on your computer or MP3 player.

First Time and Returning Users of the SuffolkWave service can CLICK HERE go directly to the SuffolkWave main page.

(in the future you can bypass this page completely and begin your searches directly at the SuffolkWave main page)

To log on to the SuffolkWave system, you'll need your Emma Clark library card number (printed on the back of your library card, underneath the barcode).

SuffolkWave downloadable Media Formats Available

In addition to the current collection of downloadable audiobooks available from the library, a few new options have recently been added:

MP3 Audiobooks -
MP3 Audiobooks do not have DRM - Digital Rights Management - and therefore can be transferred to a wide range of devices, including the iPod®, iPhone™, iPod Touch and Microsoft Zune. You will be expected to comply with the accepted agreement to delete items from their computers and devices after the 7 day loan period. Please note that not all titles are available in MP3 format.

OverDrive Media Console for the Mac -
OverDrive Media Console for MacUsing the Media Console for the Mac, you can easily download SuffolkWave MP3 Audiobooks to your Apple computer where they can be played and/or transferred to MP3 devices. Downloaded MP3 Audiobooks can also be accessed from your iTunes software.

eBooks -
Mobipocket logoA collection of fiction and light non-fiction titles in Adobe and Mobipocket eBook formats has been added.

MP3 Players
If you don’t already have an MP3 player, this may be a good time to consider getting one. Prices on MP3 players have come down quite a bit, and it’s often possible to find a basic player for between $20 and $30 (maybe even less if it’s on sale!)

SuffolkWave Guided Tour

Hardware Requirements
SuffolkWave eAudiobooks can be downloaded or played on any desktop, laptop or portable device supporting Windows Media Player version 9 and above. You can also transfer favorite titles to some supported portable devices. The portable device must be able to support playback of secure or protected wma files.

Click here for more help in finding a SuffolkWave-supported device.

For best performance, we recommend a player that supports bookmarking to allow you to designate a place within a file and return to that place after you stop or turn off your device.

Software Requirements
OverDrive Media Console for MacYou must download and install a program called the Overdrive Media Console for downloading and checking items out.

Loan Period
You can checkout a maximum of five (5) titles at any given time for a period of 7 days. You will not be able to check out additional titles until the license for a currently downloaded title expires. SuffolkWave automatically downloads a license with each download, which lets you access the audiobook for 7 days. Depending on the specific title, you may be allowed to copy it to a portable device, or in some cases burn it to a CD. Once the file has expired, the item will automatically check itself in. The file that you downloaded to your computer will no longer play and will remain on your computer until you delete it. We recommend that in order to preserve hard disk space, users regularly delete the files from their computers once the files have expired.

Please note that there is no way to check a book back in early. Each book stays attached to your account for a full 7 days.

Audio Quality
SuffolkWave offers only CD quality files. However the larger files are broken down into parts so that you don't have to download the entire work in one session.

iPod/Mac Compatability
Selected audiobook titles in MP3 format are compatible with Apple devices. (NOTE: Not all SuffolkWave titles are available in MP3 format).
