Playaway Launchpads

Playaway Launchpads, which we started offering to young patrons in July 2015, are kids-only learning tablets that circulate just like a book or movie.  The tablets are pre-loaded with educational apps appropriate for your child.

These tablets come in fun, bright orange packaging, a charging cord (with both USB and AC adapters), and a durable case, perfect for little hands.  There are currently over 25 tablets available, each pre-loaded with high-quality, interactive learning apps geared towards a particular subject area, including math, science, and language arts, and each with a different theme, such as pizza, colors, and monkeys.  The tablets are also divided by age group:  3 – 5, 5 – 7, 8 – 10, and 10+ years.  They are easy to use and come ready to play with award-winning apps.

Most importantly, these devices are 100% secure and do not have Internet connectivity.  Patrons do not have to install parental controls or worry about their children being exposed to unintended or inappropriate content.

To reserve a Playaway Launchpad, simply click here.  Choose a tablet at the appropriate age level and with a theme that your child will enjoy.  Once requested, you may pick it up in the Circulation Desk.

If you have any questions about the Playaway Launchpads, you may contact kids@emmaclark.org or 631.941.4080 ext. 123.

Food Drive, June 1 – August 16

Table with Emma Clark logo on front and food items on top. Two girls flank the table.

An annual summer tradition, Emma Clark Library is collecting nonperishable food items from June 1 – August 16. Food pantries often see bare shelves during the summer and need help with restocking items for those who are food insecure. Library teen & tween volunteers will be distributing the items to various local food pantries and nonprofit organizations throughout the community.

A donation table will be located in the Library lobby to the left of the Circulation Desk, and all are welcome to donate during Library hours. Some suggestions for food items include cereal, peanut butter, jelly, canned fruits and vegetables, rice, beans, tuna fish, juice, gum, snacks (pretzels, granola bars, trail mix, cookies), pasta, and pasta sauce.

If you have any questions about the Food Drive or would like to become a teen/tween volunteer, you may contact teens@emmaclark.org.

New Museum Passes JUST Added!

Sagtikos Manor and Long Island Maritime Museum

The Long Island Maritime Museum in West Sayville and The Sagtikos Manor in West Bay Shore have just been added to our very successful circulating museum pass program. The pass for the Long Island Maritime Museum offers 2 adults and all children (under the age of 12) free admission into the museum.  The Sagtikos Manor pass admits 2 adults and 2 children for free.

In addition, 16 of the 26 museum passes (including the two new passes) are now printable, which means there’s no need to pick up or drop off passes at the Library.  Simply print the passes from home – or come to the Library to print them on a public computer – and go!

We’re  thrilled that these museums and cultural institutions offer print-on-demand passes and hope that more will follow suit for the convenience of patrons.  The successful Museum Passes at Emma Clark circulated 1,312 times from June 2017 – May 2018, approximately 120 times per month.  Since its inception in 2013, the service continues to grow in both popularity and offerings for the Three Village community.

Reserve a museum pass here.

We also sell discounted tickets to the American Museum of Natural History, which may be purchased at the Circulation Desk in the Library’s lobby.

Community Shred Day – Saturday, May 7

Words "Paper Shredding & Recycling" with cartoon paper shredder underneath

We’re here to help you get rid of that unnecessary paperwork in a safe and environmentally-friendly way!

Join us for Community Shred Day on Saturday, May 7, 2022 from 10:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. in the Library parking lot. Protect your privacy and get rid of clutter.  A shredding truck from A Shred Away, Inc. will be in our parking lot for on-site shredding of personal documents. There is a limit of 5 boxes or bags. All paper collected will be recycled at a certified paper mill.

Please note: No plastic, carbon paper, hanging files, red well folders, cardboard, newspapers or magazines.  Clips and staples are fine to put through the shredder. No wet papers, and please take any boxes, bags, etc. back home with you.

This service is open to the public.  There is no need to register or to be a Three Village resident to participate.

If you can’t make this date, we will also have a Community Shred Day in the fall on Saturday, September 3.
