Emma Clark Library Joins Suffolk County Libraries in “The Great Playdate” & “The Great Give Back”

Setauket, NY – September 5, 2018 –

Suffolk Cooperative Library System is hosting two initiatives this Fall, The Great Playdate and The Great Give Back, and Emma Clark Library is thrilled to be a participant in these wonderful county-wide community events.

The First Annual Great Playdate (“A Day of Fun and Learning at Suffolk County Libraries” – thegreatplaydate.org) will be held on Saturday, September 22.  It’s a special day for the youngest patrons and their caregivers to experience the importance of talking, singing, reading, and of course, playing at the Library! Emma Clark will be celebrating with a “Jump for Joy” class for ages 18 months – 5 years old with their parents or caregivers. Registration for Emma Clark patrons opens for this class on September 8. In the afternoon of the 22nd, the playroom will be open for kids of all ages to play with Imagination Playground Blocks (“Big Blue Blocks”), GIANT Connect Four, and crafts.  There is no registration required for open play.  The public is encouraged to stop by that afternoon!

The Second Annual Great Give Back Day (thegreatgiveback.org) will be held on Saturday, October 13. The mission of the day is to provide opportunities for library patrons to participate in meaningful, service-oriented activities.  Emma Clark Library is asking patrons to help support our furry friends.  There will be two special youth community service opportunities on that date. Teen volunteers (grades 7 – 12) will make healthy, delicious “no bake” dog treats, along with dog bandanas with heartfelt messages. Kids in grades 5 & 6 will create dog toys.  By participating in these classes, volunteers will learn the joy of giving back to others, and they will also earn community service credit.  The treats, toys, and bandanas will be donated to local pet shelters and animal rescue and advocacy organizations.  Emma Clark Library kids and teens who are interested in these classes should register by visiting emmaclark.org or calling 631.941.4080.

In keeping with the theme of animals, October 13 will be the official kick-off of Emma Clark Library’s Pet Food Drive, which will run through the end of the month.  The Library will be collecting new, unopened pet food (both canned and dry), and all are welcome to donate (residents or nonresidents) during Library hours.  There will be a table located in the Library’s lobby.  Teen volunteers will also help run the drive by picking up food and dropping it off at various locations.

Founded in 1961, the Suffolk Cooperative Library System exists to help local public libraries provide the best in traditional and innovative public library service to all the people of Suffolk County.

The Emma S. Clark Memorial Library, located at 120 Main Street in Setauket and online at www.emmaclark.org, provides public library service to all residents of the Three Village Central School District.
