Online Services Down on 2/12

Construction cone and exclamation

We’re working to bring you faster and more reliable access by performing a major upgrade to our servers.

Although we can accomplish much of the transition without adversely impacting current operations, the majority of our online services, as well as our online catalog, will be unavailable on Monday, February 12, beginning at 8:00 a.m.  We hope to have all services restored by early evening.

Affected services include:

–   Searching and placing holds on books and other library materials

–   Borrowing or downloading e-books, e-magazines, etc.

–   Logging onto library databases

–   Reserving museum passes

–   Registering for programs.

The library Internet computers and Wi-Fi will be working as usual. You will be able to checkout library materials.  Again, only online services will be affected.

Please visit or call the library at 631.941.4080 if you require assistance during this period.

Teens & Tweens, You Can Win!

Once again, we’re showcasing the young writing and artistic talent in our community! The Helen Stein Shack Picture Book Contest calls for teens grades 6 through 12 who live in the Three Village Central School District to create a children’s picture book.  Winning authors will receive a monetary prize, have their book bound and added to the Library’s Local Focus Collection, and be recognized at an awards ceremony.

The contest is divided into two grade categories, grades 6 through 8 and grades 9 through 12, with one First Prize Winner and one Second Prize Winner selected from each group.  Each entry can be the work of a single author/illustrator or can be a collaborative effort of an author and an illustrator.

NEW! On-Demand Movie Streaming Service

kanopy

Over 30,000 independent, international, classic, and documentary films (even training videos) are now available to Three Village through an on-demand video streaming service called Kanopy.

Kanopy offers a wide variety of movies in popular categories like comedy, drama, and romance, as well as subcategories including performing arts, mental health, education, gender studies, and biology, just to name a few.  Hundreds of new films are added each month.  The service is very user-friendly, and can be accessed on multiple devices, such as a computer, tablet, or smart phone.

Each Emma Clark Library patron may watch up to 5 movies per month with their library card.  Library cardholders may stream Kanopy on their computer or download the app on their phone, and start watching, as Kanopy calls it, “The world’s finest cinema, brought to you by your library.”

Other libraries that offer Kanopy include The New York Public Library, Brooklyn Public Library, and Los Angeles Public Library, and the service was featured recently in The New York Times.
