“Hands & Hearts” Kids Community Mural

Drop in with your children (Newborns – 12 years old) to make an ink handprint and decorate paper hearts. The mural will be on display in the Children’s Library for the Summer.

Kids in grades K – 6 can receive one hour of community service credit.

We’ve partnered with The Long Island Museum for a collaborative book discussion. The program is a one-of-a-kind reading experience, where the museum exhibit enhances the conversation about the book.

2:00 – 4:00 p.m. at the History Museum (Main Visitor Entrance)

Educators from the Long Island Museum will guide us through the exhibit Building the Ballot Box: Long Island’s Democratic History. Then we’ll be discussing the book, Stories from Suffragette City edited by M.J. Rose and Fiona Davis, led by Librarian Emma Yohannan. Registration required. Residents and nonresidents welcome. Click here to register now. Emma Clark cardholders will have a copy of the book reserved for them in early April. You’ll be notified when the book is waiting for you. Nonresidents are responsible for obtaining their book through their home library.

About The Long Island Museum Exhibit:

Building the Ballot Box: Long Island’s Democratic History – will explore how residents of Long Island have worked both inside and outside of formal government pathways and within the public sphere to ensure their voices and those of their neighbors are heard. Covering more than 250 years of Long Island history, from the indigenous communities of Long Island to George Washington’s Culper Spy Ring, to the fight for Civil Rights and issues of immigration today, Long Islanders have continued to examine who is truly included in “we the people.” An important theme of the exhibition is the fight for women’s suffrage and the effort to advance women’s political participation in the 107 years since suffrage was achieved in New York State in 1917. This subject is highlighted by a major loan from the New York State Museum of a wagon used in suffrage rallies and parades in New York City and Long Island at the beginning of the 20th century. The exhibition will also focus on two trailblazing women who began their political careers in this region, Shirley Chisholm (1924-2005) and Geraldine Ferraro (1935-2011)..

About The Book:

Stories from Suffragette City edited by M.J. Rose and Fiona Davis. An impressive line-up of bestselling authors contribute to this anthology, featuring short stories set on October 23, 1915, the day of an enormous march for women’s suffrage in New York City.

Caroline Episcopal Church and the Setauket/Brookhaven Community (In-Person)

Beverly Tyler, local historian and editor of Caroline Episcopal Church Congregation 300th Anniversary 1723 – 2023, will present a program on the history of Setauket’s Caroline Episcopal Church and the church’s role in the community, from the 18th century to the present. Meet Friends!

We’re now offering “Game Days” for adults every week!
We provide the space, tables, and chairs. Participants may bring their friends and a favorite board or card game to play. We also have 2 Mahjong sets available upon request (you must supply your own cards).
This popular social time is a great way to meet friends (without the hassle of hosting in someone’s house) or to make new friendships.
There is no registration, and individuals or small groups may drop in every Friday from 10:00 a.m. – 12noon in the Vincent R. O’Leary Community Room on the Library’s lower level.
