From family fun to frightfully good programs, we’ve got a lineup of Halloween-themed events for all ages:
Adults
Spooky Spider Seashell Art
Monday, October 5, 3:30 – 5:00 p.m. OR 6:30 – 8:00 p.m.
Get ready for Halloween with a spooky spider seashell craft, guided by renowned mixed-media artist Anna Chan. Participants of all skill levels will enjoy learning her signature technique using self-hardening sand and seashells to create a vibrant, nature-inspired artwork. Space is limited. All supplies provided.

Interred on Long Island
Thursday, October 8, 7:00 – 8:30 p.m.
Long Island is the final resting place for many people of consequence. Celebrities, politicians, sports figures, artists, authors, and crime kingpins are among the many important and influential people buried right here on Long Island. Join Eco-Photo Explorers in a fascinating program as they examine the lives of these personalities, their connection to Long Island, and their burial locations. Register here starting 9/14.
Edgar Allan Poe: From Literature to Silver Screen!
Wednesday, October 14, 2:00 – 3:30 p.m.
Watch some short films based on Poe’s work and learn about the actors and directors who made a career bringing Poe’s stories to life. Presented by Keith Crocker. Register here starting 9/14.
Abbott and Costello Meet Frankenstein
Wednesday, October 21, 12:15 – 1:45 p.m.
In the spirit of Halloween, film historian Larry Wolff will discuss the making of this 1948 classic, share surprising facts about the actors and production, and play hilarious film clips. You’ll also get to view his books and memorabilia. Register here starting 9/14.
DIY Zombie Make-Up
Friday, October 23, 7:00 – 8:30 p.m.
Create personalized Zombie makeup just in time for Halloween! Using special effects techniques from the movies, we’ll create cuts, wounds, and more. Taught by artist Chris Vivas. Register here starting 9/14.
Halloween Bingo!
Friday, October 30, 2:00 – 3:00 p.m
Show off your Halloween costume, eat some candy, and join us for a relaxing afternoon of bingo and conversation with friends and neighbors. Register here starting 9/14.
Teens/Tweens (Grades 6 – 12)
Bring Your Own Adult: Needle Felted Pumpkins
Friday, September 25, 6:00 – 8:00 p.m.
Bring your own adult to this program to create a needle felted pumpkin. Learn basic needle felting skills from fiber artist Shamma Murphy, then make a fuzzy fall decoration to take home! No experience needed. Each registration covers 1 youth and 1 adult. Register here starting 8/18.
Candy Land Training & Decorations Night
Friday, October 2, 6:00 – 8:00 p.m.
Plus more nights! Teen/tween volunteers make a sweet magical land come alive for the children in our community. Create decorations and volunteer at this adored event! More info and register here.
Bring Your Own Adult: Halloween Candy Art Challenge
Saturday, October 10, 3:00 – 4:00 p.m.
Bring your own adult to this program to participate in an extra sweet art challenge! Create Halloween imagery out of candy; eat your creation or bring it home! Taught by Theresa Maritato. Each registration covers 1 youth and 1 adult.

Murder Mystery Night
Friday, October 16, 7:00 – 8:30 p.m.
Welcome to Morand Manor, where all is not well; your dinner party just became a funeral reception. Someone has murdered a guest! Using clues provided by your gracious (and possibly dangerous) hosts, you will endeavor to solve the mystery before the end of the night. Led by Teen & Tween Dept Staff. Register here starting 9/15.
Book & Movie Club: Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark
Sunday, October 18, 1:30 – 4:30 p.m.
You’ve heard it said many times before, “The book was better than the movie!” But was it really? Check out and read Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark by Alvin Schwartz then come to our Book and Movie Club to watch the 2019 movie version (rated PG-13). Led by Library Assistant Kiera. Creepypasta Writing Workshop
Thursday, October 22, 6:00 – 7:00 p.m.
Delve into the depths of your mind for the creepiest story you can tell! Creepypastas are short horror stories designed to be posted online. With your permission, these creepypastas will be shared anonymously on the Library’s website/social media! Led by Creative Writing Specialist (and Library Assistant) Rachel. Movie Night: The Nightmare Before Christmas
Thursday, October 29, 6:00 – 8:00 p.m.
Join your friends for a movie night at the library! We’ll have snacks (Popcorn! Candy! More!) for this night of entertainment. October’s movie: The Nightmare Before Christmas (rated PG). Register here starting 9/15.
Kids (Toddlers – Grade 5)
Candy Land Decorating Community Service Project (Grades 3 – 5)
Wednesday, September 16, 4:30 – 5:30 p.m.
Make candy-themed decorations for our annual Candy Land event! Participants will earn one hour of community service credit. Register here starting 9/2.
Life-Sized Candy Land (Ages 3 – 7 years w/ caregiver)
Friday, October 9, 6:00 – 8:00 p.m.
Children will travel through the game’s colorful winding trail, while meeting characters (played by teen/tween volunteers) and getting treats. Halloween costumes are encouraged but not required. Games will begin at 10-minute intervals from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. Register for your start time either in-person or by calling 631.941.4080 x. 123 starting 9/25.
