Bookmark Contest – Deadline 3/31

10th Annual Kids Bookmark Contest at Emma Clark Library!
The contest asks children living in the Three Village Central School District from Kindergarten through 6th grade to design original bookmarks for library patrons.
Winners receive a small trophy and the incredible honor of having their bookmarks professionally printed. Community members may then take home a copy of one or more of the winning bookmarks! Plus, there will be a special prize this year, in celebration of the tenth anniversary of the contest!
Click here for the Official Entry Form and Bookmark Template. Or if you prefer, stop by the Children’s Reference Desk for a copy. There is a limit of 1 entry per child. The entry deadline is March 31, 2025.
Winners will be chosen in three categories (K – 2, 3rd & 4th, and 5th & 6th grades) and announced on Thursday, May 1. All contestants’ entries are displayed in the Children’s Department for visitors to view.
Last year’s winners were Kelly Y. (Minnesauke Elementary) in the grades K – 2 category; Catherine Y. (Minnesauke Elementary) in the grades 3 & 4 category; and Mason O. (Mount Elementary) in the grades 5 & 6 category.

Kids Winter Reading – Not too late!

Let’s get YETI to read!
From Babies to 6th grade, join our Kids Winter Reading Challenge! It runs from Monday, January 13 – Sunday, March 2, 2025. Whether your child is being read to or reading on their own, this program is a great incentive. When kids report the books that they’ve read, it gives them confidence and encourages a lifelong love of reading.
Click here to register through Beanstack, our online reading tool. There is also an app (Beanstack Tracker).
Pre-Readers: For children who have books read to them. Goal is at least 10 books with their grown-up.
New Readers: For children who are just starting or have only recently begun to read by themselves. Goal is at least 5 books on their reading level.
Confident Readers: For children who read on their own. Goal is at least 2 books on your reading level.
When your child has completed their goal, they will earn an electronic raffle ticket for a chance to win the special Yeti prize (a plush Yeti, a Yeti board game, & tickets to the Rinx).
Beginning Monday, Feb. 10, all kids who reach their goal can come into the Library to pick up their prize bag and reading certificate.
Winter Reading Club ends on Sunday, March 2, 2025.
Questions? Email kids@emmaclark.org or call 631.941.4080 ext. 123.

***A big thank you to The Rinx for their continued support with a donation of tickets for our Kids & Teen Winter Reading raffle prizes.
Shed the Meds – Protect the Environment

The Suffolk County Sheriff’s Office hosts this safe way to properly dispose of unused medications. Proper disposal is essential to protect the environment and ensure that old drugs don’t end up in the wrong hands. They will be located in the historic section of the Library to collect non-liquid drugs/medications on Tuesday, August 13, 2024 from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m.
There is no registration required and all are welcome.
Please note: The Suffolk County Sheriff’s Office cannot accept any liquids or needles of any kind. They are only accepting unused or expired medications from individuals (not large quantities from a doctor’s office or health care facility).
