Sustainable Teen Volunteering

Junior High & High School students can make a difference with these environmentally-friendly community service programs in May and June:

May Flower Bee Planters
Monday, May 6, 7:00 – 8:00 p.m.
Create a planter for Bee-Friendly plants! Taught by Jackie Parente. Earn 1 hour of community service credit upon completion of the program. Click here to register starting 4/12.


Grow and Taste Garden
Friday, May 17, 6:00 – 7:00 p.m.
Plant an edible vegetable and flower garden to take home that, in time, you can transfer into your own yard or large patio pot. Then, see and taste what our seeds will grow to be! Taught by Judy Wilson. Earn 1 hour of community service credit upon completion of the program. Click here to register starting 4/12.


Volunteer at Hobbs Farm (Location: Bethel Hobbs Farm, Centereach)
Friday, May 24, 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. (School holiday) AND/OR Thursday, June 27, 10:00 a.m. – 12 noon
Bethel Hobbs Community Farm is a volunteer-run farm that provides fresh, wholesome produce to those in need, through a network of local food pantries and soup kitchens. Teen Volunteers are needed to help cultivate the produce. Teens may till, plant, water, weed, prune, pick, sort, and package produce for those in need. Tasks will vary depending on the needs of the farm. Please dress for a mess and bring gardening gloves if you so desire. All teens must be accompanied by a supervising adult age 18 years or older. Library staff will also be in attendance. Earn 2 hours of community service credit for volunteering. Sunflower Power
Friday, June 7, 5:00 – 6:00 p.m.
Learn how to make two different earth friendly newspaper planting pouches and plant a variety of sunflower seeds in a few of them. These seeds will produce a flower in 70-90 days. Snack on this versatile food source and learn some fun sunflower facts. Taught by Judy Wilson. Earn 1 hour of community service credit upon completion of the program.
